Recovery of ego-motion using image stabilization

چکیده
A method for computing the 3D camera motion (the ego-motion) in a static scene is introduced, which is based on computing the 2D image motion of a single image region directly from image intensities. The computed image motion of this image region is used to register the images so that the detected image region appears stationary. The resulting displacement eld for the entire scene between the registered frames is affected only by the 3D translation of the camera. After canceling the e ects of the camera rotation by using such 2D image registration, the 3D camera translation is computed by nding the focus-of-expansion in the translation-only set of registered frames. This step is followed by computing the camera rotation to complete the computation of the ego-motion. The presented method avoids the inherent problems in the computation of optical ow and of feature matching, and does not assume any prior feature detection or feature correspondence.

Threading Fundamental Matrices
ÐWe present a new function that operates on Fundamental matrices across a sequence of views. The operation, we call athreadingo, connects two consecutive Fundamental matrices using the trifocal tensor as the connecting thread. The threading operation guarantees that consecutive camera matrices are consistent with a unique 3D model, without ever recovering a 3D model. Applications include recove...

A movie captured by a wearable camera affixed to an actor’s body gives audiences the sense of “immerse in the movie”. The raw movie captured by wearable camera needs stabilization with jitters due to ego-motion. However, conventional approaches often fail in accurate ego-motion estimation when there are moving objects in the image and no sufficient feature pairs provided by background region. T...

Recent research in image sensors has produced cameras with very large fields of view. A n area of computer vision research which will benefit f rom this technology is the computation of camera motion (ego-motion) from a sequence of images. Traditional cameras suffer from the problem that the direction of translation may lie outside of the field of view, making the computation of camera motion s...

Abs t rac t . A robust method is introduced for computing the camera motion (the ego-motion) in a static scene. The method is based on detecting a single planar surface in the scene directly from image intensities, and computing its 2D motion in the image plane. The detected 2D motion of the planar surface is used to register the images, so that the planar surface appears stationary. The result...

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...
